What a veneer is, and what it is not
A veneer is a thin shell, 0.3–0.7 mm, bonded to the front of a tooth. It changes colour, shape and small alignment problems while leaving most of the tooth intact. A crown is a cap over the whole tooth, which means the tooth is cut down on every side, typically 1.5–2 mm. Once a tooth is prepared for a crown it can never go back to a veneer.

How many teeth, and how white
Most smiles show 8–10 upper teeth and 6–8 lower when you laugh. A well-planned case veneers the teeth that show and matches the rest with whitening, rather than covering every tooth in the mouth. The process in Tbilisi, day by day

- Day 1–2: examination, digital scan, a wax-up or digital mock-up of the new smile that you approve before any tooth is touched. Whitening first if the untreated teeth need to match.
- Day 2–3: minimal preparation under local anaesthetic, final scan, temporary veneers fitted.

Five checks before you book veneers abroad
- Ask “veneer or crown, per tooth?” and get the answer in writing. If a clinic will not say, the answer is crowns.
- Ask how much enamel is removed. Under 0.7 mm is a veneer preparation; anything close to 2 mm is a crown.
- Insist on a mock-up you approve first. The shape and shade are decided on a model or in a digital smile design, not in the chair after the drilling.
- Name the material. E.max, feldspathic or composite, with the manufacturer. “Premium ceramic” is not a material.
- Check the guarantee covers the bond, not just the ceramic. Debonding is the common failure; chipping is rare.
